Complete Residential Wiring Installation

Absolute Electrical Service are no strangers to large-scale jobs that call upon all of the collective experience the company has amassed since it was founded in 1994.

Absolute Electrical Service were recommended to a homeowner by Ronkonkoma-based general contractor, Build NY Services, and together the two companies worked directly with the homeowner.

The work completed on the home’s first floor involved a complete wiring installation. Absolute Electrical Service installed a new electric fireplace, a new boiler and worked on an updated bathroom. Additional work included: new outside lighting, new recessed lighting, new decora devices with screwless plates and caseta remote switches for easy access to lighting via a cell phone app.

The home’s kitchen space was also updated with Absolute Electrical Service completing the wiring on all kitchen appliances.

Since the existing lighting and outlets were all original, there was also a lot of wiring that needed to be completed on the home’s second floor. The updates to the lighting and outlets were added with minimal damage and were successfully brought up to present code.

Additionally, Absolute Electrical Service installed wall heaters for areas that were cold in the home’s bathrooms and lower level kitchen. This extensive project took a total of six weeks to complete from start-to-finish.

Complete wiring and rewiring replaces the electrical bones of a house, from the branch circuits in the walls to the junctions, boxes, and devices they feed. It is the right call when wiring has reached the end of its service life or was never safe to begin with. On Long Island that often means knob-and-tube in older homes, deteriorated cloth-insulated conductors, ungrounded two-prong circuits, or a patchwork of past additions that no longer meets code. Common red flags include frequent breaker trips, two-prong outlets throughout, dimming or flickering under load, warm wall plates, a persistent burning smell, or circuits so overloaded that running a space heater knocks out half a room.

A proper rewire is methodical. We map the existing circuits, plan a layout that separates heavy loads like the kitchen, laundry, and HVAC onto their own dedicated circuits, and run new copper NM or MC cable with the grounding and bonding today's code requires. GFCI and AFCI protection goes where it belongs, in kitchens, baths, and living areas, and the work is permitted and inspected. For occupied homes, we stage the work to minimize wall damage and keep essential power running. Whether it is a full gut renovation or a targeted rewire of the oldest circuits, the goal is a system that is safe, grounded, and ready for the way the home is actually used.

Wiring Installation FAQs

What is knob-and-tube wiring and should it be replaced?
Knob-and-tube is an early ungrounded wiring method found in some of Long Island's oldest homes. It lacks a ground, is often buried under insulation, and degrades with age. Replacement is strongly recommended for safety, insurance, and code compliance.
Can a house be rewired without tearing out all the walls?
Often, yes. Experienced electricians can fish new cable through walls, ceilings, and chases with limited, targeted openings. Some patching is unavoidable, but a thoughtful plan keeps wall damage and disruption to a minimum, especially in occupied homes.
What modern protections does a rewire add?
A current rewire adds proper equipment grounding plus GFCI protection in kitchens, baths, and outdoor areas and AFCI protection in bedrooms and living spaces. It also separates heavy loads onto dedicated circuits so they are not competing with everyday outlets.
Is a rewire permitted and inspected?
Yes. Rewiring is permitted work and must pass an electrical inspection. We file the permit, coordinate inspection, and leave you with a clearly labeled panel and documentation, which matters if you later sell the home or update insurance.
How long does a whole-house rewire take?
It depends on the home's size, access, and how much is being replaced, ranging from a few days to a couple of weeks. We walk the house first, scope the work, and give you a timeline and up-front pricing before starting.
