This job included a full amp service upgrade for Bellport Plaza. One of the ten stores in this shopping center is Family Dollar where we also worked on a full renovation.

Our technicians replaced the shopping center’s previous system from 3 overhead services totaling 500 amps to a 2000 amp service. Each store has nowbeen designated a 200 amp service, allowing each store more than enough power for any need possible.

The previous overhead service was not adequate enough to run each store and PSEG required new underground service, rendering all the existing services obsolete. To install an underground amp service we had to call for a markout where an excavation company is called in and proceeds to dig for the transformer pad and the primary cable, which will run to the nearest pole. The multi-ton concrete transformer pad is then dropped into the hole, 52 inches deep and leveled. All connections are made inside the vault underground, housing 13,200 volts.

During the markout we came across some obstacles where our technicians had to excavate some utilities by hand, specifically dealing with the cesspool, drainage, water system, buried phone cables and gas. There was also a tree that we had to trim which allowed the excavator to be able to drop the concrete pad into the ground.

In addition, the town also required a certificate of occupancy on all stores upon completion of the family dollar renovation. Our technicians made all the electrical service repairs to each store, replacing the outdated system and bringing everything back up to code.
