Residential Generation Installation

“No residential project is too big or too small!”

Recently, we were hired by a homeowner in Bellmore, NY for a service upgrade to a 2500 square foot home. The upgrade included a new 300 amp service from two 150 amp panels with two auto transfer switches with low shedding for air conditioning. This controls the amp auto transfer switches, meaning that if a load is too high it will not turn on, preventing any possible overload to occur. Our technicians also supplied and installed a new Generac 22kW Generator that is hardwired with natural gas that runs from the street.

This generator will automatically and immediately turn on if the home loses power in any situation regardless if it is due to weather or downed power lines. During emergencies having a generator like this can make all the difference, you never know when power will be restored. By having a home generator you will be able to continue using essential appliances and lights; keep your food from spoiling, heat or air conditioning on, and keeping you and your loved ones comfortable during a potential extended period of time. Also, since the generator runs on natural gas it is highly unlikely that it will ever run out, therefore making this our number one choice in home generators.

A home standby generator is a permanently installed unit that powers your house automatically when utility power fails. Unlike a portable generator you drag out and refuel in the dark, a standby system sits outside on a pad, runs on natural gas or propane, and starts within seconds of an outage through an automatic transfer switch, no cords, no manual steps. For Long Island homeowners this matters because the region sits squarely in the path of coastal storms and nor'easters, and extended outages after events like a hurricane or heavy winter storm are a recurring reality. Well water pumps, sump pumps, heat, refrigeration, and medical equipment all depend on power that may not come back for days.

A clean installation is engineered, not improvised. We size the generator to the loads you want to protect, whether that is a few essential circuits or the whole house, and set it on a proper pad with the clearances the manufacturer and code require. The transfer switch is wired to isolate your home from the grid so the generator can never backfeed the utility line, which protects both your equipment and line workers. Fuel is coordinated with your gas supply or a propane tank, the unit is permitted and inspected, and we configure the automatic start and self-test. When the lights go out, the system takes over on its own and runs until utility power returns.

Standby generators work hand in hand with panel upgrades, dedicated circuits, and whole-home surge protection, since backup power is only as good as the service feeding it. Home Generator FAQs

How is a standby generator different from a portable one?
A standby unit is permanently installed, runs on natural gas or propane, and starts automatically through a transfer switch within seconds of an outage. A portable generator must be rolled out, manually started, refueled, and connected by cord, and it cannot run safely indoors.
Why is a standby generator worth it on Long Island?
Long Island's coastal position means recurring exposure to hurricanes and nor'easters, and outages can stretch for days. Standby power keeps sump and well pumps, heat, refrigeration, and medical equipment running automatically, which matters most during exactly the storms that knock the grid out.
What does the transfer switch actually do?
The automatic transfer switch disconnects your home from the utility and connects it to the generator when power fails, then reverses when power returns. It prevents dangerous backfeed onto utility lines, protecting both your system and the crews working to restore service.
Does a generator install need a permit and inspection?
Yes. Generator and transfer-switch installation is permitted electrical work, and fuel connections and clearances are inspected. We handle the electrical permit and coordinate the inspection so the system is installed to code and safe to operate.
Can you size a generator for just the essentials?
Absolutely. We can protect a defined set of critical circuits, such as heat, sump pump, well pump, and refrigeration, or size a unit for whole-house coverage. We assess your loads and recommend the right capacity before installation.
