North Hempstead Country Club

Pool Controls, Wiring and automation.

North Hempstead Country Club (NHCC) in Port Washington New York has been a historical landmark since 1916. This serene club was established on Long Island's Gold Coast and has provided generations endless fun activities for the whole family. Featuring a large golf course, tennis courts, swimming pools, dining (both inside and poolside), and space for hosting parties - this country club has it all!

Recently, we integrated a new pool wiring system for the NHCC. The club now has commercial pool controls, wiring, and automation for their public pool.

We upgraded their system to a stainless steel nema 4x panel box. A stainless steel nema 4x panel box is a gasket-ed door enclosure intended for both indoor and outdoor use where extra weatherproof protection is needed. Primarily, it is used as protection against corrosion, wind blowing particles such as dust and rain, splashing water, hose directed water, and from being iced over. A secured latch will keep this heavy duty steel panel dry from the inside out, safely maintaining all electrical wiring.

At Absolute Electrical Service, No Job Is Too Small and Emergency Service is available. Contact us today for a free electrical estimate.

Pool and spa electrical work is some of the most safety-critical wiring on any property, because water, metal, and electricity sit inches apart. The scope covers pump and heater circuits, saltwater chlorinators, pool and landscape lighting, panel capacity for the equipment pad, and automation systems that run pumps, heaters, lights, and water features from a controller or phone. Homeowners call when adding an in-ground or above-ground pool, replacing a failing pump, upgrading to energy-efficient variable-speed equipment, or modernizing an older pool that predates current safety rules. Tripping GFCIs, a pump that hums without starting, or lights that flicker are all signs the pool's electrical system needs a professional look.

Code compliance here is non-negotiable and specific. The National Electrical Code Article 680 requires GFCI protection on pool pump and lighting circuits and, just as importantly, equipotential bonding: a bonding grid that ties together the pump motor, metal fittings, ladders, rebar, and the water itself so no dangerous voltage difference can develop around the pool. Absolute Electric installs correctly sized circuits, bonds the equipment pad and deck to code, sets GFCI protection where required, and wires automation so pumps, heaters, and lighting operate safely together. On Long Island, where pools must be inspected, we pull the permit and coordinate the inspection so the finished installation is both reliable and signed off.

A pool's electrical needs often reach beyond the equipment pad. Projects may call for a panel or service upgrade to carry the added load, a dedicated subpanel at the pool, low-voltage landscape lighting, or surge protection for automation controllers. Pool Electrical FAQs

Why does equipotential bonding matter so much for pools?
Bonding ties all metal around the pool, plus the water, into one connected grid so there is no voltage difference a swimmer could feel. Required by NEC Article 680, it is what prevents a stray-voltage shock, and it is separate from grounding.
Are GFCIs required on pool circuits?
Yes. Code requires GFCI protection on pump motors, pool and spa lighting, and receptacles near the water. If your GFCI trips repeatedly, it is often detecting a real fault in equipment or wiring, which should be diagnosed rather than bypassed.
Can you wire pool automation and variable-speed pumps?
Yes. We install automation controllers that manage pumps, heaters, lights, and features on schedules or from an app, and wire energy-efficient variable-speed pumps. Correct circuit sizing and bonding of the new equipment are part of every automation install.
My older pool was built years ago. Does it meet current rules?
Often not. Pools installed before current standards may lack a proper bonding grid or modern GFCI protection. We inspect the existing equipment pad and deck, then correct deficiencies so the system matches today's Article 680 requirements.
Is a permit needed for pool electrical work on Long Island?
Yes. Pool wiring requires an electrical permit and inspection in Long Island municipalities, and the bonding and GFCI work is exactly what inspectors check. We handle the permit and inspection, serving pool owners throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties.
