The West Islip Marina is home to a beautiful water front view of the gorgeous Great South Bay. With views and many amenities such as an outdoor water front restaurant, beach access, docking for town residents boats and a play ground this marina has become the towns favorite summer getaway.
Recently, we were hired by the West Islip Marina to install general lighting and wiring throughout the entire area. We also supplied and installed 30 new shore power locations for 30 amp twist lock plugs that are used for portable generators for the boats docked at the marina. These posts were custom made to help save money on the shore power locations, which can run upwards of $800-$2500 per post. In addition, we also strategically installed GFCI’s conveniently located on each post, making it easily accessible for dock users to get power.
Electricity and water can be extremely dangerous, the presence of moisture greatly increases the dangers of accidental shock which is why a GFCI is so important. The GFCI's (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) protect us from receiving electric shocks from faults in the electrical devices we use. It works by comparing the input current on the hot side to the output current on the neutral side. If theres the slightest difference in current then there is current leaking out somewhere. The GFCI is built to protect us in situations like this and will quickly cut off the power supply to the leaking device within 20-30 milliseconds, greatly reducing any possible human tissue damage from errant current.
